Cerro Prieto Vineyard & Cellars produces premium, boutique wines from five varietals – Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot ,Pinot Noir, and Sauvignon Blanc. Our first vintages – 2006 bottling – were released to great reviews and are ready for you to enjoy. Our Estate Merlot and Paso Bordo blend are full-bodied, have a rich bouquet, smooth, supple tannins and pair well with many foods. The 2006 Reserve Merlot has won two International Gold Medals and SOLD OUT in August 2009. Our Pinot Noir will be ready for purchase in 2013, as will the Sauv Blanc. Our 2007 wines have already been greeted with rave reviews. Chef magazine(Sept 2010) rated our '07 Merlot as one of California's 10 Marvelous Merlots, and neatly tucked us between such powerhouse wines as Cakebread above, and Duckhorn below. If you have to have neighbors, those aren't bad ones to have. For the finale, Wine Enthusiast rated '07 Merlot 91 pts. and Los Angeles Intl Wine Competition gave our '07 Paso Bordo the Intl Gold Medal and 91 pts. 2007 was indeed a memorable and great vintage for Cerro Prieto.

A full-bodied Bordeaux/ Rhone blend, this estate reserve wine is complex with ripe plum, cassis, blueberry, chocolate, and subtle oak flavors, housed in firm tannins. Steve Heimoff, Wine Enthusiast, writes, this wine shows "real charm and finesse". 15.3% alc.
Wine Enthusiast: 92 pts
Tasted in late winter, this blend of Cabernet (85%) and Syrah (15%) was fruity and chocolaty, with a pastry sweetness that was a bit simple. But, by early summer, it had aquired greater depth and balance, and seemed drier and better structured. Shows real charm and finesse. Drink now-2010. -- Steve Heimoff

2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (Paso Bordo Reserve 86% Cab/ 10% Syrah/ 4% Merlot) $39
(currently out for rating). Initally meant to be the younger brother to '06 and '07,
a splash of Merlot was added which gives a cherry, cocoa, chocolaty flavor to go along with
the subtle blackberry, and trace of strawberry in this beautifully bouqueted wine. Big
on bouquet, big on flavor, with a silky satin finish. An extraordinary wine.
2008 Merlot Reserve (90% Merlot / 10% Syrah) currently out for rating $37
A lush bouquet of rich dark cherry, a hint of strawberry, which fills the mouth with dark berry,
a hint of plum at mid palate, a chocolaty, cocoa, cherry finish with subtle hint of oak,
wrapped in velvety tannins..

2006 Paso Bordo Reserve, Los Angeles International Wine Competition, May 2009, Bronze Medal,Cabernet/ Syrah blends all prices
The Merlot and the Bordo Blend are off the charts. I give them both a mid-90 point spread. These wines are typical Paso, in the sense that they are full-bodied and full of big flavor. You can drink now or hold for 10 years. Either way you will be impressed with the fruit forward, smooth tannin wines. I still dream of tasting them. This is a small production winery, so you need to order a case to store now.
